Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon Hydrotherapy is a holistic treatment that involves the gentle introduction of warm, purified water into the colon to facilitate internal cleansing. This process, sometimes referred to as a colonic, colon therapy, or colonic irrigation, is performed using a single-use, disposable speculum and involves no discomfort.
How do I prepare for my first Colon Hydrotherapy session?
To ensure the best results from your Colon Hydrotherapy session, we recommend not eating for at least 2 hours beforehand. Arriving on an empty stomach helps ensure a more comfortable and effective session. Refrain from drinking liquids, including water, for 1–2 hours before your appointment. Hydrating well the day before and avoiding foods that cause gas will also help in preparing your body for the treatment.
Severe Constipation Policy
If you haven’t had a bowel movement in 4 or more days, please contact us.
Our colon hydrotherapy device is not designed to handle high volumes of impacted stool, which may overwhelm the drainage system. We may recommend a gentle pre-appointment preparation (such as magnesium citrate, herbal tea, or a home enema) before your visit to support a more effective and comfortable session.
How long will my session take?
Please allow a little extra time for your visit. This includes parking and a brief intake form that takes about 5 minutes to complete. We ask that you arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your appointment so we can ensure the space is perfectly prepared for you. There may be a short 15-minute reset period between clients to maintain a calm, clean environment.
What are the directions to your location?
Our location can be tricky to find, the address to Fernz Wellness is 5486 Wilshire Blvd. The entrance is BEHIND Wilshire in the parking lot. Enter from the parking lot, right next to the restaurant Yuko Kitchen. Please park in the lot right in front of the entrance (not in the alleyway), you can also park on the street or the public parking lot behind the Bank of America on Cochran Ave.
What is the difference between an open and closed system in Colon Hydrotherapy, and which one do you use?
There are two main types of Colon Hydrotherapy systems: open and closed. We use the LIBBE Open System, which offers a more private and self-guided experience. You lie comfortably on a contoured basin and insert a small, disposable rectal tube yourself. A gentle flow of purified water is introduced, and waste naturally exits into the basin and directly into the plumbing system without odor or mess. Many clients find the open system to be more comfortable, less invasive, and easier to relax with during the session.
Who is colon hydrotherapy for?
Open system colon hydrotherapy is generally best suited for individuals aged 18 to 75, who are comfortable with self-insertion and are able to manage the session with minimal assistance. For clients over 75, we may recommend evaluating suitability on a case-by-case basis or exploring closed system sessions, which offer more hands-on support.
Can I undergo Colon Hydrotherapy during my menstrual cycle?
Absolutely, it is perfectly fine to undergo Colon Hydrotherapy during your menstrual period. In fact, it's an ideal time as your body is already in a natural cleansing mode. It's advisable to use internal protection like a tampon during the session.
How does Colon Hydrotherapy differ from an enema?
Unlike an enema, which cleans only the lower part of the colon and involves a single water infusion, Colon Hydrotherapy cleanses the entire length of the colon. Administered by a trained therapist, it uses a special machine where waste material exits the body through a tube directly into the sewage system, ensuring a hygienic and odor-free procedure.
What are the contraindications for Colon Hydrotherapy?
Certain health conditions might not be suitable for Colon Hydrotherapy. These include, but are not limited to, Crohn’s Disease, intestinal tumors, severe hemorrhoids, recent surgeries, certain heart conditions, and first trimester pregnancy. It's always best to consult your physician if you have any health concerns. See Contraindications here.
What should I expect after a Colon Hydrotherapy session?
After a session, most clients feel a sense of increased energy and relaxation. It's not uncommon to experience varying emotional responses as your body eliminates toxins. Drinking plenty of water and natural juices helps in the detox process.
How often should Colon Hydrotherapy be done?
The frequency of Colon Hydrotherapy depends on individual needs. Some might benefit from a few sessions, while others, especially those with a diet high in processed foods, may require more. A certified therapist can tailor a plan based on your personal health history.
Can Colon Hydrotherapy affect the balance of my gut flora?
No, it doesn't harm healthy bacteria. On the contrary, by removing waste, it fosters an environment where beneficial bacteria can thrive. After treatment, it's beneficial to consume pro and prebiotics naturally through food to support this balance.
What are the immediate benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy?
Most clients report feeling lighter and more energetic immediately following a session. This is due to the elimination of waste and toxins from the colon.
Are there any dietary recommendations post-Colon Hydrotherapy?
Yes, it's recommended to drink plenty of fluids and eat light, easy-to-digest foods like vegetable soups and steamed vegetables. Avoiding heavy, processed foods and raw vegetables immediately after the session is also advisable.
Why is Lymphatic Drainage Therapy important?
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy is crucial for maintaining a healthy lymphatic system, which plays a vital role in detoxifying the body, supporting the immune system, and aiding in the reduction of inflammation. It's a gentle, effective treatment for promoting overall wellness.
What are the benefits of Lymphatic Drainage Therapy?
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy offers numerous benefits, including improving skin clarity, reducing puffiness and inflammation, aiding in detoxification, and enhancing relaxation. It's also beneficial for post-pregnancy care, reducing headaches, and promoting healing in swollen or sore tissues.
Who needs Lymphatic Drainage Therapy?
Anyone can benefit from Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, especially those looking to enhance their body's detoxification process, reduce swelling and inflammation, or seeking relaxation and stress relief.
Can Lymphatic Drainage Therapy aid in skin health?
Yes it can! By improving lymph flow, it can help clear the complexion, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and aid in the healing of scar tissue.
How should I prepare for a Lymphatic Drainage Therapy session?
On the day of your appointment, it’s best to avoid using any deodorants, lotions, makeup, perfume, or jewelry. Please have a dry body (avoid showering right before your session) and cut off all foods and water 1-2 hours prior to treatment.
